a. it’s chemistry yo. basically it’s converting a compound into an ‘oxide’, which means it has oxygen on the end. for example ionized ammonia (a.k.a. ammonium, whatever you please), NH4+, can be oxidized into nitrite, which is NO2. badum tsss
